New Temporary Tenant Protections in Lemon Grove
Temporary Emergency Law – Started February 3, 2026
This law helps protect most renters from no‑fault evictions. To be eligible for additional protections, you must be a tenant currently covered by California’s Tenant Protection Act of 2019 (AB 1482).
A no‑fault eviction means you did nothing wrong, but your landlord wants you to move. This new city law gives renters more time and money to help move.
WHAT THIS LAW DOES
Money to Help You Move/Relocate
If your landlord evicts you for a no‑fault reason, they must pay you relocation assitance.
Most renters get:
- 1 month of HUD’s Small Area Fair Market Rent (based on your ZIP code)
- PLUS 1 month of your current rent
You Get MORE Money If ANY of These Are True
Your household makes less than 80% of Area Median Income
You are 60 years or older
You are disabled
You have children under 18
If yes, you get:
- 2 months of HUD’s Small Area Fair Market Rent (based on your ZIP code)
- PLUS 1 month of your current rent
