$5 Million Funding Shortfall Could Leave Thousands Without Critical Aid in San Diego
Cuts to housing and other legal and programs put vulnerable residents in jeopardy
San Diego, CA — The Legal Aid Society of San Diego has launched a campaign to address a projected funding shortfall of $5M, which could prevent thousands of low-income residents from receiving free legal help. The “One More Case” campaign runs through December 2nd, which is Giving Tuesday, and calls on the community to help ensure that more people in crisis get the support they need.
The Legal Aid Society of San Diego assists people facing eviction, domestic violence, healthcare denials, and other urgent legal problems. But fewer resources mean the organization will be forced to turn away many who qualify for help.
“When someone reaches out to Legal Aid Society of San Diego, they’ve often exhausted every option,” said Joanne Franciscus, CEO/Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society of San Diego. “It’s our donors who make it possible for us to say ‘yes ’— to take one more case, help one more person, and change one more life.”
The campaign invites donors to be the reason someone gets the legal help they need.
“I am truly grateful for your incredible support. After spending the past 48 years in survival mode, I feel as though I have been given a second chance at life. Your unwavering support has touched me deeply, and I am overwhelmed with emotion. Legal Aid has made a profound impact on me, and I am deeply appreciative of everything you have done. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” -Michelle, Housing Client.
