The federal government started collecting on defaulted student loans on May 5, 2025, including taking tax refunds and other federal benefits, and is expected to begin taking borrowers’ wages later this summer.

In this webinar, we will explain what default is, what happens when you don’t pay your federal student loans, and how you can try to fix it. We will also discuss when and how the federal government can collect from you.
