Unemployment Insurance
Benefits (UIB)

Our Unemployment Insurance Benefits (UIB) team will help individuals with any UIB issues including:

  • Advice and information about applying for Unemployment Insurance Benefits with EDD.
  • Help understanding benefit denials and appeal result (Notice of Determination and Decision).
  • Provide legal advice and assistance with appeals to an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ), California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board (CUIAB) and Superior Court.
  • Establish Installment Agreements (Notices of Overpayment and Benefit Overpayment Collection Notices) and apply for overpayment waivers.

 

When you come to the office, make sure you are ready to provide to us:

  • EDD Notices of Determination (NOD), Overpayment (NOO), and Benefit Overpayment Collection Notices or EDD Interview questionnaire, if available
  • CUIAB Appeal letters and decisions.
  • Any key related documents to your unemployment claim

To file for unemployment benefits

  1. Check the EDD website here: https://edd.ca.gov/unemployment
  2. Call EDD New Claims (8AM - 12 PM)

  3. For some EDD claims, you might be required to send an EDD application via fax or regular mail
    (DE 1101-I/DE1101-IS)
