In February 2007, a social worker contacted the Pro Bono Program regarding a homeless man who had been taken advantage of. The man inherited his parent's house and become the sole title holder on the home. He then became involved with a church and a preacher who he became very close to and began to trust. About a year and a half ago, he gave the deed of the home to the church. There was an oral contract that included conditional terms to the transfer. The terms included that this man be able to live in one of the bedrooms of the home rent free and that the grounds of the home be used as a activity center for the members of the church. Unfortunately, after the church assumed title the preacher then deeded the house to his own son. They kicked the original owner out of the house and began using the home for their own personal use. The former owner became homeless because of this action. Upon hearing of this case, volunteer attorneys came pouring in, asking to help this gentleman. We are happy to say, that an attorney is in the process of assisting this gentleman regain his home and his life.
