The priorities of the Immigration Team are:

1. Assist or advise eligible clients to prove or obtain U.S. citizenship

2. Assist or advise eligible clients to obtain or maintain legal immigration benefits

3. Assist or advise eligible clients to maintain family unity by immigrating their close family members; and

4. Assist and advise eligible clients with respect to other immigration or nationality matters

We educate and serve the community in immigration matters through individual case assistance and community education.  We give presentations in the community to inform people of changes in immigration laws, as well as try to demystify existing laws.

PAI Collaboration:  We work with the Pro Bono Program (PAI) attorneys. We have created a training video on how to prepare battered-immigrant self-petitions, and on that basis have referred a number of cases to PAI attorneys. Thanks to the help of PAI attorneys, we are able to help more battered immigrants in need than ever before. This collaboration continues to expand our ability to assist more people in the community in need of other immigration services as well.

INS Collaboration:  Our liaison work with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) continues. As a member of the liaison committee between the INS and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), we have been able to make heard the concerns of many indigent un-represented immigration applicants.  We will continue to work with the INS to yield local policy which is beneficial to our clients.
