The Legal Aid
Society of San Diego, Inc. (LASSD) has a full-time Intake Specialist
position open at its Downtown San Diego Office.
Working under
the direction of the Staff Attorney, the intake specialist is the
first contact that most of the applicants have with LASSD. There is variance of settings and
stressful conditions that these duties must be performed under. An
intake specialist elicits factual information from applicants
quickly, accurately, and courteously in order to determine if the
person is eligible to receive services from LASSD. The applicant
must have sufficient knowledge in all areas of the law in order to
perform these functions. In the event LASSD cannot assist, the
intake specialist must know the basis for, and the sources of
referrals.
The typical work
performed by intake specialists include but are not limited to:
answering telephones, interviewing potential applicants in person
and over the telephone, determining the legal need and financial
eligibility of the applicant for program services, arranging
appointments for clients with staff attorneys and advocates, making
appropriate and knowledgeable referrals, recording statistics into
our database, performing translation services, copying and
maintaining an adequate supply of pro per packets for distribution,
and mailing forms and documents.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Bilingual
English/Spanish must have proficient oral and written communications
skills, type 30 wpm net, enter data into a computerized database,
handle high stress situations, act and communicate in a professional
manner with clients in person and over the telephone, think
logically, and follow written and oral instructions.
